Brittany Lapin Headshot

Brittany Lapin, PhD

Associate Staff
Joint appointment in the Center for Neuro-Restoration/NI
Email: [email protected]
Location: Cleveland Clinic Main Campus

Research

Dr. Lapin leads the biostatistical team of the Neurological Institute’s Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (NI-CORE). NI-CORE utilizes patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and other electronic health record data to produce new medical knowledge and optimize management strategies. Dr. Lapin’s research involves developing and optimizing methodology to improve the utilization and interpretation of PROs for both clinical research and patient-centered care.

Biography

Dr Lapin is Associate Staff in Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute’s Department of Quantitative Health Sciences, with a secondary appointment in the Neurological Institute, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. She received a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, and a MPH and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois’ School of Public Health. She began her career as a research technician and biostatistician at Northwestern and NorthShore Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois.

Education & Professional Highlights

Dr. Lapin has been a member of the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) and Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) since 2016. She currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Proxy Task Force of ISOQOL.

Dr. Lapin is Co-Editor in Chief of Quality of Life Research. She also serves on the Editorial Board as a statistical consultant for the journals Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, CHEST, and Anesthesia & Analgesia.

Research

Research

My general research interest lies in optimizing the clinical utility of patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMs). Cleveland Clinic collects over 100,000 PROMs per month, which our team analyzes to track conditions over time, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and determine the value of care. More specifically, my research is focused on developing and optimizing methodology to improve the utilization and interpretation of PROMs for both patient-centered care and for clinical research.
