The Vachharajani lab investigates immuno-metabolic response in sepsis and septic shock with specific interest in the role of sirtuin nutrient sensors. The team focuses on immuno-metabolic pathways that dysregulate host response to pathogen during early and late phases of sepsis, with the goal of developing effective therapies to reduce immune dysfunction and sepsis-related mortality.
The current NIH-funded projects using human biospecimen and laboratory models of sepsis, focus on the effect of high fat diet and alcohol consumption on the immune response in sepsis and septic shock.
