I work both as a clinician seeing patients with complicated inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and as a clinical and translational researcher. My research interests span translational IBD genetics studies and clinical projects studying the pathogenesis of IBD, its clinical manifestations and associated complications. From a genetics standpoint, my work has focused on identifying genetic variants associated with IBD and defining the functional significance of such IBD-associated genetic variants. I have developed an IBD DNA bank in which we have collected DNA and clinical information from 2,000 individuals (cases and controls) which has led to several publications and collaborations with other groups.
