Our postdoctoral programs gives you hands-on experience at one of the nation’s top hospitals. Work alongside world-class investigators transforming groundbreaking discoveries in the laboratory to patients.

Our scientists are prominent and well-cited in their fields, and include members of the prestigious National Academy of Science, National Academy of Medicine, American Society of Clinical Investigators and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Our postdocs have received training grants from institutions such as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health.

Our postdoctoral fellows are embedded in labs with dedicated support from investigators and support personnel.

Postdocs have access to Lerner Research Institute’s cores and facilities, covering basic needs such as glassware and to personalized support for individual research programs.

Lerner Research Institute also provides aid in the areas of visa, career development, funding opportunities and institutional awards recognizing excellence in research.

Our postdoctoral community, supported by our Lerner Trainee Association, offers professional development and social enrichment as well as leadership opportunities on the committee.

Institutional Awards

We offer multiple institutional awards that recognize postdoctoral fellows for their excellence in research, including:

  • Postdoctoral Fellows Awards for Excellence, rewarding first authors of highly-significant articles
  • F. Merlin Bumpus Junior Investigator Award, highlighting excellence in research by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in both basic and clinical research
  • Lower Award, encouraging original investigation and professional excellence related to scientific papers
  • Tarazi Fellowship Award, recognizing papers that make an outstanding contribution to cardiovascular research
  • Cleveland Clinic Association Alumni Travel Award, providing funds for trainees presenting at nationally recognized scientific meetings


Extramural Funding

Lerner offers services to help postdoctoral fellows in successfully obtaining extramural funding. Our Office of Research Development can assist with pre-award activities related to finding funding opportunities and for proposal development and editing. Additionally, the office offers grant writing education and training, as well as resources to help with the grant writing process. Current trainees only: visit the intranet for more information.
